Our Athletes

Our athletes are the most important aspect of AthletiCamps.  Helping all levels of athletes improve, no matter what their goal, are why we are in business.  This page is dedicated to them.  Obviously, there are too many success stories to list on one page, so we will continually update this section. Amateur Riders

Monica Neilson - Brentwood, CA.

Monica Neilson, a member of the Vella Bella cycling team, joined the AthletiCamps coaching program with one major goal in mind: Master’s National Championships in Park City, UT.  She walked away with three medals in three events.  Congratulations to Monica for an incredible result.  She looks forward to this year’s events in Pennsylvania, where she aims to duplicate her 2005 results.

Dan Martin - El Dorado Hills, CA.

I was born and raised on the east coast Canada where, as soon as you were old enough to walk, you were fitted for skates and taught how to move a puck out of your end.  Being a decent hockey player but not good enough to continue after high school I went in search of another sport. I fell hook, line and sinker into rowing.  The raw intensity appealed to my desire for physical suffering at the time.  Maybe it was all the blue-line to red-line drills!  Morning workouts that left me drained seemed to make the rest of the day more bearable.  Rowing stayed with me as I got my engineering degree and made the transition into the work force.  It ended after a big effort to make the 2000 Olympic team that unfortunately went sour because of a lack of funding and coaching turmoil.  In the hills of California, working through my bitterness, I found a love for the bike and another sport was discovered.  In 2001 I made the transition from a Cat 5 to a Cat 2 in short time.  A few crashes later and I was back into rowing for 2002, where my main goal was to get a 1X (single) National title which so far had eluded me.  I succeeded in winning the US National Championships.  2004 saw me back on the bike and late in the season I was invited to join the newly formed Safeway/G.A. Communications team.  My new teammates were like a breath of fresh air into tired lungs.  Being part of the team has been an inspiration and I feel very fortunate for the new friends and look forward to an incredible year of racing in 2006.

Outside of cycling I love spending time with my beautiful partner in life, Betina.  I work as a chip designer at Cisco Systems, and on the off chance there is any time left, I attempt to complete one of the many pending house projects.  My favorite color is red, season is Fall, band is Nirvana, and I am in love with the Mazda RX8.  It is a view from a distance love affair, but might one day lead to something more.
