A list of frequently asked questions:

Our camps versus others like CTS and Friel

  • Physiological and biomechanical testing at every scheduled and custom camp performed by one of the countries top sports performance lab.
  • One month of free coaching or program development following each camp, based on your unique physiological profile and not guess work or field testing.
  • Individual coaching consultation with each athlete.
  • Congenial team feeling created at all camps.
  • Individual attention begins before each camp via consultation with a coach regarding goals of each athlete; program development begins before an athlete arrives at camp.
  • A variety of topics (e.g., athletic nutrition) presented to every athlete with the easily accessible option of in-depth follow-up by individual athletes while still at camp.
  • Every camps personality is unique and tailored towards the goals and direction of the camp's athletes.
  • Team feeling of camp continues after camp ends, as you become a lifetime member of the Athleticamps family via an alumni website and ongoing discount for future services.
  • We also understand this is your vacation. AthletiCamps has over 25+ years riding and training in the Gold Country of Northern California and will help you see as much of this incredible area as possible during your stay.

Our style versus others

  • Individual service actually means something at AthletiCamps; when you call, you will speak with a coach, not a customer service representative or a voice mail menu. Similarly, e-mails are returned within 24 hours by the company's owner.
  • All employees of the company care deeply about your success as an athlete, and your enjoyment while at a camp or clinic.
  • Every athlete is unique, and we spend the time with you to understand your unique needs and goals. Our motto is one athlete at a time.
  • We address all aspects of your functioning as an athlete; your body and mind must work together in order to produce the best results in your program.
  • We help you to break through any barriers that may limit your maximal performance.

Am I fit enough ?

For the riding portion of the camp, we will group riders by ability, or if you want to rider with someone in particular (friend, spouse, etc.), just let us know. In terms of being fit enough, that is the whole idea.  You are at a particular level, we will help you improve.

Why test and how strenuous is the testing?

No matter what your goals or level of fitness, testing is an important first step to improvement. It is not pass/fail, but an effective method of benchmarking your fitness, so we can help design a training plan fitted to your lifestyle and goals.

How strenuous is the testing? This depends on the test. Some are more strenuous then others. For example the pedal analysis using the SRM is a very simple, but informative test. The lactate tests are a bit harder, but they give an accurate benchmark, so a program can be designed to meet your goals. UC Davis Sports Performance has worked with hundreds of athletes and will monitor you while you are performing your test.

How difficult will the training rides be?

The training rides will vary, depending on different factors. One will be the location of the camp. Camp descriptions will detail what the rides will be like in terms of difficulty. We will also put riders with similar skill levels together. This will be accomplished by doing pre-camp interviews with all clients to determine skill and fitness level, along with camp and season goals.

Who will be the guest ride leaders and speakers?

We will have different speakers and guest riders depending on who is available during the camp period. During the summer, guest riders may have a competition scheduled, but we will do our best to bring in the most informative and friendly pros to help you reach your goals during the camp.

Do I bring my own bike ?

Currently, we don't have bikes to rent. We recommend you bring your own bike anyways, as the tests like the pedal analysis should be on your own machine, so changes can be made directly and during the tests.
